Here’s two brand new screenshots for Bungie’s upcoming sci-fi saga Destiny. You’ll notice that they have a real Halo vibe to them but I’m certainly not complaining. From what we’ve seen of Destiny thus far it certainly has a Halo vibe to it overall but it is far from being a complete and total Halo rip off. Can you really blame Bungie considering Halo was the franchise they were working on for over 10 years? See what you think by looking at the new screenshots just below.
Two Clean as Hell Screenshots of Destiny
Don’t forget that the Destiny beta will be released this summer and that you can gain access to the beta by pre-ordering right now. A great option would be going with a retailer such as Amazon.com. It’s also good to know that when you pre-order Destiny in order to get into the beta that you’ll be able to choose which platform that you want to play on. Destiny will be released on September 9, 2014 for the Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, and PS3.
For those who purchased SMT4 late like myself, the game doesn’t just end once you’ve achieved the four different endings the game has to offer. Although this is a bit belated, Atlus released the DLC Clipped Wings 1 and 2 on Nintendo’s eShop for 2.50 each. This adds two new quests which involve fighting the “angel” type demons such as Gabriel and Michael. 2.50 Sounds like a steep price for just one extra quest, but if you know SMT games like myself, you know you’re getting your money’s worth. These bosses are significantly harder than any you encounter during the campaign, so in order to even attempt to fight these bosses additional grinding and intensive strategics may be necessary in order to beat them. Some may not like the grinding aspect, but that is SMT at it’s core. This DLC is a masochist’s dream.
Christopher Nolan’s next movie, Interstellar, looks like it could be quite the spectacle. That’s all one can really say given the teaser doesn’t disclose much. We know that this is sci-fi and that one of the characters, played by Matthew McConaughey, is leaving all connections founded on Earth for the unknown. Furthermore, here’s what the official IMDB page has to say:
A group of explorers make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.
The North American president for Ubisoft recently spoke with IGN and spilled the beans concerning the void of updates related to the next entry in the Rainbow Six series. Fear not, the game has not been scrapped all together. Instead, it is being completely reworked. Ubisoft has already confirmed that Rainbow Six: Patriots is now targeted for the next gen consoles and now it’s clear that they are further shifting things around in order to produce the sequel this series needs.
The current direction for Patriots just wasn’t up to par for the Ubisoft editorial board and so the team was forced to try something new. And this is where things currently stand. This is good and bad for fans of the series. It’s bad because it means more waiting and it’s been so damn long since a Rainbow Six title was released. It’s good because it mostly likely means the team is striving for what suits the series best. If you’re a fan of the series you sure as hell don’t want the next Rainbow Six title to try and rip off the Call of Duty style first person shooter experience.
It’s tempting to chase the money trail but a Call of Duty styled Rainbow Six most likely wouldn’t pan out. It would likely turn out to be a commercial disaster – alienating both revenue and hardcore fans of the series. Just look at what Halo 4 did, that would happen with Rainbow Six as well if they decided to CoDify things. There’s always a chance they’ll take that chance but the fact that they are taking their time is a good indicator that they are trying make a true Rainbow Six title.
Killzone: Mercenary, the premier FPS shooter for the Playstation Vita at the moment, will be receiving a few updates that add to the overall experience. According to the official Playstation Blog the first new update, the third official update, will do little in terms of adding content to Killzone for the Vita. However, it will reduce the size of all of the other updates. This new update will be available in the coming weeks and although it lacks luster and excitement it does offer a more manageable experience to those pesky PS Vita memory cards. And who doesn’t hate those damn proprietary memory cards?
The fourth update will arrive in January and aims to make for a more streamlined experience. Issues such as matchmaking, connectivity, and team balancing will be addressed. The update players have all been waiting for, number 6, will arrive shortly after update 5 and will bring two new free maps as well as other features. This update will also bring offline bot play for Guerilla Warfare and Mercenary modes. That last announced update will arrive a few months into the new year and will address other miscellaneous issues as well as add support for the Vita TV.
It’s really nice to see that Guerilla Cambridge is heavily supporting Killzone: Mercenary and it makes it very tempting to buy this shooter considering I have a Vita myself. It’s especially tempting when you consider that Killzone: Mercenary will be $20 at GameStop on Black Friday.
Tom Clancy’s The Division is massive multiplayer third person shooter set in a pandemic torn New York City. You are part of a classified unit, The Division, and your mission is to restore order to this tarnished city. One of the most interesting aspects of this new Tom Clancy game is that it features RPG elements. This game certainly has a lot of potential but it could also go horribly wrong. We’ll have to wait and see if Ubisoft nails what it sets out to accomplish but for now we can relish in this brand new moody screenshot. Some highlights here include the lighting, colors, and the texture work.
There’s good news all around when it comes to the PS4 version of Diablo 3, the Ultimate Evil edition. Not only will you be able to transfer your character from the PS3 version to the PS4 version, but the Ultimate Evil edition will have exclusive features that can’t be found on the PC version. You’ll be able to enjoy Diablo 3 on the PS4 at 1080p/60 FPS with two cool new features. Well, that’s only if they turn out to be fun and not merely gimmicks.
The first exclusive feature is a gifting system. Blizzard wants players to feel connected even when they aren’t playing together. The concept behind it is that whenever you kill a monster and a legendary drops, a second item will drop, the gift, and you’ll be able to send this gift to somebody on your friends list. The player gift will either be a rare or a legendary. More loot is more loot and the fact that you’re getting free rares and legendaries is only a good thing.
The second feature is called Avenger Kills. If you are killed by a monster, the monster will then grow in power and enter a portal. The monster is suspended in limbo and has the chance to appear in a friends game whenever they happen to sign on. It will do so during a special event. If your friend dies the monster grows stronger. If your friend successfully kills it you will both get a piece of loot. These exclusive features certainly aren’t something of major caliber but they are something, and the gifting system in particular provides players with more loot, and loot is life.
There’s some great news for PS3 Diablo 3 players planning on getting a PS4; you’ll be able to transfer your PS3 character over to the PS4 version. Blizzard also announced at BlizzCon that Diablo 3 for the PS4 will render at 1080p and at 60 FPS. Will you get a discount for the PS4 version if you already own a PS3 copy? This isn’t known yet but it would only make sense. The PS4 version will include the first expansion for Diablo 3, Reaper of Souls. Be sure to check out the features trailer we posted to get a sense of what it’s all about. Hopefully an Xbox One version exists and will get the same treatment as the PS4 version for those who are playing on the 360 and are planning on getting an Xbox One. I’m still undecided but it would be nice if Philadelphia Collins and myself could transfer our characters over to the Xbox One version so as to not have to start over.
Heroes of the Storm is Blizzard’s entry into the realm of MOBA. League of Legends leads this genre with the biggest player base by far with DotA 2 coming in second. Blizzard’s MOBA game will feature characters from their series and varied maps. From the looks of the trailer it seems as though you won’t be playing on the same map over and over as you would in League of Legends. It’s also a nice touch that they’ve added characters from their other games, especially for those who happen to be Blizzard fans. The art style is unique and the graphics in general, while not mindblowing, are clean in crisp.
Even though this is Blizzard and they surely have the potential to make this a solid game I’m not sure how well this will fair against LoL and DotA 2. League of Legends absolutely dominates and DotA 2 is there for those who want something a little different. It will be interesting to see where Heroes of the Storm stands once it’s matured. I imagine it will be a hit or miss.

This right here will be the true test of Heroes of the Storm. Gamers’ impressions are where it’s at to see where a game stands among a genre that’s already been filled.
Microsoft has taken a beating ever since the news spread that the PS4 is more powerful than the Xbox One. It turns out the Xbox One can’t compete with the PS4, at least not this early in the game, in terms of resolution output. 720p looks like it’ll be the norm for the One for sometime. There’s one exception to the Xbox’s resolution troubles and that’s Forza 5. Forza 5 renders at a full 1080p and clocks in at 60 FPS. If you refer to this tweet you’ll see that Microsoft aims to make this known by the masses. It now seems that they think 1080p to be relevant.
You can’t help but feel a mixed emotions as far as how to view this advertisement. It’s great that Microsoft is making it known that Forza 5 runs at 1080p considering it is becoming synonymous with better among gamers and consumers in general. On the other hand, all a gamer needs to do is a few Google searches in order to find out that Forza 5 is the Xbox One’s only 1080p game. They’ll also see that games generally run at a higher resolution on the PS4. For example, one of the biggest franchises in gaming, Call of Duty, runs at 720p on the Xbox while hitting 1080p on the PS4. Microsoft needs to work some magic and create some 1080p exclusives if they’re trying to stay relevant in the resolution wars.
